President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged full Government support to ensure a successful hosting of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, as Zimbabwe prepares for the global tournament
Speaking at State House on Wednesday while addressing the senior men’s national cricket team, the President said the country is prepared to meet all requirements needed to stage the prestigious tournament.
Government Commits to Full Support
President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe will play its part as a co-host alongside South Africa and Namibia, describing the tournament as a major opportunity to elevate the country’s international profile.
He assured that his administration will provide guarantees and resources necessary to deliver a seamless event, calling on citizens to unite in ensuring the tournament meets global standards.
The President emphasised that hosting the World Cup presents a rare chance to showcase Zimbabwe’s culture, hospitality and passion for cricket to a worldwide audience.
Call for National Unity Ahead of Tournament
Highlighting the significance of the event, Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans from all sectors to work together in preparing for the tournament.
He said collective effort would be key to delivering a memorable competition that reflects excellence both on and off the field.
Chevrons Praised for T20 World Cup Heroics
The President also commended the national team, known as the Chevrons, for their impressive performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held earlier this year in India and Sri Lanka.
Zimbabwe reached the Super Eight stage and secured notable victories, including a memorable win over Australia and a triumph against co-hosts Sri Lanka.
Mnangagwa described the team’s campaign as inspirational, praising their resilience and fighting spirit, which he said brought pride to the nation and boosted Zimbabwe’s image on the global stage.
A Moment to Showcase Zimbabwe
With preparations now gathering momentum, the Government views the 2027 World Cup as more than just a sporting event, but a platform to promote tourism, investment and national identity.
Officials believe the tournament could leave a lasting legacy for Zimbabwe’s cricket infrastructure and international reputation.
