Zimbabwean UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo has announced his retirement from active competition. However, he wasted no time shifting attention to the future. Instead of discussing another fight, Gorimbo pointed supporters toward a new name.
The former fighter revealed that his journey inside the cage has reached its end. At the same time, he expressed confidence in another Zimbabwean athlete. Gorimbo believes that one man can carry the nation’s UFC dream forward.
Gorimbo Passes the Torch
Gorimbo directly identified Nicholas Hwende as the athlete with the potential to reach the UFC. He also urged Zimbabweans to rally behind him.
“Now that I am done. Zimbabwe this is your next guy to UFC if you support him right,” Gorimbo said.
He then encouraged fans to follow and support Hwende’s journey. His message quickly sparked conversation among supporters. Many had expected him to continue fighting instead.
Several fans reportedly pushed for another appearance inside the octagon. Yet Gorimbo made his position very clear. He believes his role has changed.
A New Mission Beyond Fighting
Gorimbo explained that his calling now lies elsewhere. Rather than continuing his fighting career, he wants to guide others. He also suggested that experience has shaped his new direction.
“My calling now different,” he said.
He added that his lessons from the sport will now help others. However, he stressed that his contribution will come through guidance.
His announcement marks a significant moment for Zimbabwean mixed martial arts. Gorimbo carried national hopes into the UFC spotlight for years. Now the focus could gradually shift toward Nicholas Hwende.
The next chapter, therefore, may depend on whether Zimbabweans embrace Gorimbo’s challenge and support the fighter he believes can rise.
