Kaizer Chiefs’ new era: Is Pitso Mosimane now leading the coaching race?

Kaizer Chiefs started another coaching search after dismissing Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef on Tuesday.

Now, Amakhosi management must make another major decision before the new PSL campaign begins. Meanwhile, pressure continues to grow at Naturena.

Supporters want the Glamour Boys back among South Africa’s elite clubs. Consequently, attention has shifted to several high-profile coaching candidates.

Mngqithi Leads the Early Race.

Manqoba Mngqithi currently appears to be the strongest contender for the vacant position.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor reportedly tops Amakhosi’ shortlist after another disappointing season.

“The plan at Kaizer Chiefs is to add one senior figure to the technical team, with Manqoba Mngqithi currently top of the list,” respected Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates insider Innocent Mkhize said on X.

Mngqithi brings valuable PSL experience and tactical discipline. Furthermore, he understands South African football culture extremely well.

His successful spell at Sundowns also strengthens his reputation. Therefore, Chiefs may view him as the safest appointment available.

Mosimane and Vandenbroeck Remain in Contention

Pitso Mosimane continues to attract strong support from Chiefs fans.

The experienced coach remains without a club, which has increased speculation around a possible move to Naturena.

Interestingly, Mosimane recently described Chiefs as part of his family.

“I’m part of the Kaizer Chiefs family because of my son. It’s a big, small family. My uncles, one played for Pirates, the other played for Chiefs, the one who trained Doc,” Mosimane stated on FARPost.

“It’s an ecosystem, we come from one place, one family,” he added.

Mosimane boasts one of African football’s strongest coaching records. In addition, his leadership qualities remain widely respected.

However, Chiefs must still convince him with an ambitious long-term project. Otherwise, landing the decorated coach could prove difficult.

Reviving the Soweto giants would also become one of the biggest tasks of his career. Still, many supporters believe he can restore the club’s former dominance.

Meanwhile, Sven Vandenbroeck has also emerged as a serious option.

The Belgian tactician reportedly impressed Chiefs management with his CAF experience and continental success.

“According to sources close to Chiefs, former Wydad AC and CR Belouizdad coach Sven Vandenbroeck has been shortlisted for the now vacant position ahead of the new season,” KickOff reported.

Although Vandenbroeck remains an outsider, Chiefs could still consider his international experience valuable. Nevertheless, the club may favour a coach with stronger PSL knowledge.

For now, Mngqithi appears ahead of the pack. However, unexpected twists always surround coaching decisions at Chiefs.

Other names linked with the role include Benni McCarthy, Ernst Middendorp, Rhulani Mokoena and Eric Tinkler.
