Police Open Investigation
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said authorities were treating the matter as a suspected petrol-bomb attack.
According to police, a report was made after flames were seen spreading through the house shortly after 11PM.
Investigators are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Daughter Raises Alarm
Bishop Mwazha’s wife, Desiree Kwaramba-Mwazha, said the family had travelled to Harare on Saturday, leaving their daughter, Loveness, at the main house while a worker remained in a nearby cottage.
She said their daughter was startled by a loud noise on Sunday night and initially suspected that intruders had entered the property.
Moments later, she noticed flames inside the house and rushed out to seek help.
Loveness alerted farm workers, who attempted to contain the fire, but their efforts were unsuccessful as the blaze spread rapidly through the building.
Extensive Damage Reported
Police and firefighters were called to the scene, but part of the 13-room house had already been destroyed by the time emergency services arrived.
The family said the fire consumed household furniture, kitchen equipment, bedding, clothing, food supplies, including maize and beans, and several other valuables.
The total value of the damaged property is estimated to exceed US$150,000.
Search for Suspects Continues
Authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident.
Police say investigations are ongoing and more information will be released as detectives continue gathering evidence into the suspected arson attack.
