Kwagga Smith is preparing for a brand-new role away from the rugby field. The Springbok forward and his wife, Ilke, have announced they are expecting their first child together.

The 33-year-old joins a growing list of Springbok players getting ready to embrace fatherhood for the first time.

Ilke Smith shares exciting baby news

Ilke Smith revealed the happy news on Instagram with a heartwarming post. She and Kwagga posed with sonogram images and a soft toy to celebrate the special milestone.

“Our greatest adventure yet”, she captioned the post.

She also included blue and pink heart emojis. The colours appeared to suggest the couple has not yet revealed their baby’s gender.

Meanwhile, the comments section quickly filled with congratulatory messages. Fellow Springbok partners, including Maris Pollard, Layla Kolbe, Jandre Koch, Juanri Mostert, Anlia Etzebeth, Mine de Klerk, Saskia Snyman, Kirsta Marx, Frances Reinach and Willemien du Toit, shared their best wishes.

More Springboks celebrate growing families

Kwagga and Ilke are not the only Springbok couple celebrating exciting family news this year.

Recently, Springbok newcomer Vincent Tshituka and his wife, Katlego, also announced they are expecting their first child.

In addition, towering lock RG Snyman and his wife, Saskia, confirmed they will welcome a baby in the coming months.

Several experienced Springbok fathers have also expanded their families. Cobus Wiese and his wife, Rike-Mari, welcomed their second son in January.

Meanwhile, Jean Kleyn and his wife, Aisling, celebrated the arrival of their fourth child in April.
