Man Flees After Setting Wife’s Car and Rented House on Fire Over US$1 000 Dispute
A Nyatsime community in Chitungwiza was left stunned after a man allegedly set a rented house and his wife’s car on fire following a heated dispute over US$1 000.
The incident happened on Wednesday night and left neighbours counting their blessings after no one was trapped inside the burning house.
The man, who is believed to be an artisanal miner, reportedly fled the scene after the fire started.

Infant Rescued Before Fight Escalated
According to H-Metro, neighbours said the couple’s young son, identified as Junior, was safely removed from the house by their maid before the confrontation between the couple intensified.
According to residents, the husband and wife exchanged blows and threw stones at each other during the argument before the situation appeared to calm down.
Moments later, the man allegedly started a fire inside the couple’s bedroom before setting his wife’s vehicle alight.
Argument Started Over US$1 000
A neighbour said the dispute began when the husband demanded that his wife return US$1 000 he had previously given her.
The man was reportedly unhappy after his wife questioned him about missing clothes and told her he wanted to leave the relationship.
The woman allegedly explained that she had already used the money to buy household items and chicken feed for their poultry business.
The explanation reportedly angered him, leading to the violent confrontation.
Neighbours Describe Dramatic Scene
One neighbour said residents heard the woman crying for help during the fight and rushed outside after noticing smoke and flames coming from the house.
The neighbour said the fire had spread to the vehicle, while the house was filled with smoke.
Residents later gathered at the scene as the couple’s belongings and property were destroyed.
The wife reportedly took a photograph of her husband and identified him as the person responsible before saying the evidence could help police track him down.
Police Investigate Incident
The suspect reportedly disappeared after the fire, with police now investigating the matter.
The case has been opened at Beatrice Police Station, although details surrounding possible arrests remain unclear.
