Nine People Killed After Kombi Plunges Into Ruti Dam in Buhera
A tragic accident claimed the lives of nine people after a commuter omnibus plunged into Ruti Dam in Buhera early on Friday morning while carrying passengers to a church gathering in Murambinda.
Three other passengers survived after managing to swim to safety, while emergency responders and local residents recovered the bodies of the victims from the water.

Suspected Brake Failure
Preliminary reports indicate that the commuter omnibus had stopped on the Ruti Dam wall as luggage and goods were being loaded.
The driver was reportedly outside the vehicle when it suddenly began moving, with suspected brake failure believed to have caused it to roll into the dam.
At the time of the incident, 12 passengers were inside the vehicle.

Bodies Taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital
Manicaland Provincial Civil Protection Committee chairperson John Misi confirmed that nine people lost their lives, while three escaped by swimming out of the dam.
He said the victims’ bodies were retrieved from the water with the assistance of community members before being taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police Launch Investigations
National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatal accident and said investigations were underway to determine exactly what caused the vehicle to enter the dam.
Authorities are expected to release more information once inquiries have been completed.
Fresh Tragedy at Ruti Dam
The latest disaster comes only weeks after another fatal incident at Ruti Dam, where four members of the same family drowned when the canoe they were travelling in capsized while crossing the water.
The back-to-back tragedies have renewed concerns over safety around the dam as authorities continue investigating the latest accident.
