Air Zimbabwe Relaunches Harare-London Route in Major International Comeback
Zimbabwe’s national airline is taking a major step towards rebuilding its international network as it unveils its long-awaited London connection at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport today.
The ceremony comes ahead of the first Harare-London Gatwick flight, which is scheduled to take off on Wednesday, bringing back a route that has been unavailable to travellers for more than a decade.

Ministers set to attend launch event
According to The Herald, the official unveiling of the service will be held today at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, with Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona leading proceedings.
The event will also be attended by Harare Metropolitan Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Charles Tawengwa, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi, UK Development Director and Deputy Head of Mission Dr Jo Abbot, along with other senior officials.
Guests will witness several activities, including a water cannon salute, ribbon-cutting ceremony, the opening of the aircraft doors and a tour of the aircraft before meeting the flight crew.
Three weekly flights planned
Air Zimbabwe confirmed that the revived route will provide passengers with a direct travel option between Harare and London Gatwick three times a week.
Flights will leave Harare on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while return trips from London will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The airline said the service represents a significant step in its plans to rebuild its international operations and reconnect Zimbabwe with important overseas markets.
Spanish airline to provide aircraft support
The Harare-London route will operate using an Airbus A330-300 aircraft secured through an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) agreement with Spanish carrier Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas.
Through the arrangement, Plus Ultra will supply the aircraft, pilots, maintenance and insurance, while Air Zimbabwe will remain responsible for selling tickets, managing passengers and overseeing the commercial operation.
Boost expected for tourism and trade
Air Zimbabwe said the renewed connection would help create easier movement between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom while supporting tourism growth and economic cooperation.
The route is also expected to offer Zimbabweans living in the UK a more convenient travel option by reducing the need for connecting flights through other countries.
As part of the relaunch, the airline has introduced promotional fares, with one-way tickets starting from £490 or US$495, while return fares begin at £675 or US$900, depending on availability and applicable terms.
The return of the Harare-London service is being viewed as a key milestone in Air Zimbabwe’s efforts to rebuild its international footprint.
