Kaizer Chiefs have secured Khanyisa Mayo on a permanent deal after his successful loan spell.
The 27-year-old attacker has now committed his future to Amakhosi. Head coach Fernando Da Cruz will count on him for the upcoming season.
Chiefs will compete in both the Betway Premiership and CAF competitions. Therefore, the club has moved quickly to strengthen its squad.
Mayo becomes Chiefs’ fourth signing of the current transfer window. He joins Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, and Adolf Mtasingwa as new arrivals.
Mayo completes dream move
Chiefs signed Mayo on a season-long loan in September 2025. The move fulfilled a childhood dream.
His father, Patrick Mayo, enjoyed a memorable spell at the club. As a result, Khanyisa had always wanted to wear the famous gold and black jersey.
Mayo made an immediate impression by scoring on his debut. However, injuries and limited playing time disrupted his momentum.
He played 15 matches and scored two goals. In total, he spent just over 600 minutes on the field.
Chiefs confirmed the transfer in an official statement.
“Kaizer Chiefs have completed the permanent signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, following his loan spell with the Glamour Boys last season.“
The club also praised his qualities and influence at Naturena.
“Known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Mayo has already established himself as a fan favourite at Naturena. His permanent move strengthens Amakhosi’s attacking options and signals the Club’s intent to challenge for glory both locally and across Africa.“
From Eastern Cape to Naturena
Mayo was born on 27 August 1998 in Umtata, Eastern Cape. He later moved to Gqeberha.
He developed through the SuperSport United academy before starting his senior career with Royal Eagles.
After that, he played for Richards Bay and Cape Town City. During his time in Cape Town, he became one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
The Bafana Bafana international finished as the joint-top scorer in the 2022/23 PSL season with 12 league goals.
He then followed that campaign with another 10-goal season. Overall, he scored 28 goals in 88 PSL appearances for Cape Town City.
His performances earned him a move to CR Belouizdad in August 2024 on a three-year contract.
Mayo has represented South Africa at U17, U20, and senior level. Now, he gets another chance to fulfil his potential with Kaizer Chiefs after turning his loan spell into a permanent stay.
