Kaizer Chiefs Crowned Toyota Cup Champions After Beating Scottland FC
Kaizer Chiefs kicked off their final preparations for the new Betway Premiership season with silverware after defeating Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC 1-0 to win the 2026 Toyota Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.
Mfundo Vilakazi’s first-half strike proved to be the difference as Amakhosi produced a disciplined performance to secure a confidence-boosting victory over the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League leaders.

Vilakazi Makes The Difference
Chiefs looked sharp from the opening whistle and nearly created an early breakthrough when Vilakazi’s free-kick found Lebohang Maboe, whose effort was cleared before it could trouble the goalkeeper.
The breakthrough arrived in the 15th minute after Scottland failed to deal with a long delivery from Inacio Miguel. Vilakazi reacted quickest inside the box to poke the loose ball into the net and hand the Soweto giants the lead.
The midfielder almost doubled his tally later in the half with a powerful long-range effort, but Scottland goalkeeper Talbert Shumba produced a solid save to keep his side within touching distance.
Scottland threatened before the interval through Anderson de Campos, whose curling free-kick narrowly missed the target with Brandon Petersen beaten.
Injury Blow For Amakhosi
Kaizer Chiefs suffered a setback before half-time when defender Bradley Cross was forced off through injury. Given Msimango replaced him as Nasreddine Nabi’s side reshuffled its defence.
Scottland FC made wholesale changes after the break, introducing an entirely new starting XI that included former Kaizer Chiefs fan favourites Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat.
Kaizer Chiefs Hold Firm To Lift Trophy
Despite Scottland’s fresh legs, Kaizer Chiefs continued to create the better chances during the second half.
Etiosa Ighodaro came close to extending the lead but failed to direct his header on target from Reeve Frosler’s cross. Wandile Duba also had an opportunity to seal the contest late on, only to blaze his effort over the crossbar.
Knowledge Musona almost rescued the Zimbabwean side in the closing stages, but his well-struck free-kick sailed just over the bar.
Kaizer Chiefs comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to claim their first piece of silverware of the new campaign, providing a welcome boost ahead of the start of the domestic league season.
