Hifa Breaks Silence On Festival Return, Promises Major Reveal
With just days to go before the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) is expected to begin, organisers have assured the public that preparations are continuing, despite growing concern over the absence of an official programme.
The festival, expected to make its first appearance in eight years, is scheduled to run from August 3 to 9. However, with only a few days before the proposed opening, many arts enthusiasts have questioned whether the event will go ahead after organisers remained silent on key details such as the programme, venues and performing artists.

Social media filled with questions
The lack of official information has sparked widespread discussion online, with followers expressing concern that the festival’s comeback could face another postponement.
Responding to the speculation, Hifa public relations representative Tafadzwa Simba dismissed fears that the event was in doubt, saying organisers would provide a full update on Thursday, July 30.
“Hifa will make a reveal on Thursday, 30 July 2026,” Simba said.
The announcement is expected to outline the festival schedule, venues and the lineup of local and international performers.
Return of a cultural landmark
Hifa has built a reputation as one of Africa’s leading multidisciplinary arts festivals, drawing audiences with a blend of music, theatre, dance, visual arts and spoken word performances.
Before its hiatus in 2018, the annual event served as a major platform for Zimbabwean creatives while attracting artists and visitors from across the continent.
Its planned revival has generated significant excitement within the arts community, with many hoping the festival will once again provide a stage for local talent and help revitalise Zimbabwe’s cultural scene.
With Thursday’s announcement now expected to answer lingering questions, festival-goers will soon learn whether the long-awaited return of Hifa will unfold as scheduled.
