Harare Employee Accused Of Helping Fake ZIMRA Official Target Employer In US$3,000 Scam
A Harare man employed at Condere Shopping Centre has been brought before the courts over allegations that he helped orchestrate an extortion scheme involving a fake ZIMRA official.
Persuade Mandiki, 34, appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa facing allegations of working with Blessing Mutema, who allegedly misrepresented himself as a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority officer.
Mandiki was remanded in custody until July 30, when his bail application is expected to be heard.

Alleged insider role in scheme
The State alleges that Mandiki used his position at the company to provide information that was later used to threaten his employer.
Prosecutors told the court that Mandiki allegedly informed Mutema that the business was keeping smuggled goods at its warehouse along Kirkman Road in Harare.
It is alleged that the information was deliberately supplied to help create a false case against the company and put pressure on the employer to pay money.

Suspect allegedly received part of payment
The court heard that the two men allegedly exchanged messages while planning the alleged scheme.
Mutema is accused of approaching the complainant while pretending to be a ZIMRA official and demanding money after making claims about illegal goods at the warehouse.
The State alleges that after receiving US$3,000 from the complainant, Mutema shared the money with Mandiki as part of their alleged arrangement.
The case continues on July 30.
