Police On High Alert Ahead Of Planned 31 July Protests
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has intensified deployments across the country ahead of planned protests scheduled for 31 July 2026, assuring Zimbabweans that peace and security will be maintained. The police said members of the public should continue with their normal daily activities while reporting any criminal conduct to law enforcement authorities.
Police Increase Deployments Ahead Of 31 July Protests
In a statement issued on 29 July 2026, Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said officers had been deployed nationwide to preserve law and order.
Commissioner Nyathi said:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police assures Zimbabweans of peace and security in the country. The Police has made deployments in all parts of the country for effective maintenance of law and order.”
The police statement comes as calls for nationwide demonstrations on 31 July 2026 continue to circulate on social media.
Constitutional Amendment Act Sparks Planned Demonstrations
The planned protests have been linked to opposition against Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3, which was recently signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa after being passed by Parliament.
While the ZRP did not directly address the legislation in its statement, it urged Zimbabweans to report any criminal behaviour linked to the planned demonstrations.
Commissioner Nyathi said:
“The public should feel free to report any criminal activities which include threats, harassment or intimidation to the Police at any nearest Police Station or National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197.”
Police Urge Public To Remain Calm
The police reiterated that officers would remain on duty throughout the country to maintain public order and respond to any reported criminal activity.
The statement did not announce any changes to public services or restrictions ahead of 31 July. It instead encouraged Zimbabweans to continue with their daily routines while cooperating with law enforcement where necessary.
As of 29 July 2026, the ZRP says it remains focused on maintaining peace and responding to reports made through police stations and its national complaints channels.
