Hezy Motors Boss Hazel Mafu Awaits Bail Ruling In Alleged Multi-Million Fraud Case
Hezy Motors Logistics director Hazel Silibaziso Mafu will have to wait a few more days to learn whether she will be granted bail after a Harare magistrate reserved judgment in her application. Mafu, who is facing dozens of fraud charges linked to an alleged vehicle import scheme, is expected to know the court’s decision on 3 August 2026.
Hezy Motors Boss Hazel Mafu To Learn Bail Outcome On 3 August
Harare regional magistrate Jesse Kufa reserved judgment after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and the defence. The bail hearing concluded on 29 July 2026 at the Harare Magistrates Court after the investigating officer was cross-examined.
Mafu, 35, is the director of Hezy Motors Logistics and is facing 79 counts of fraud.
The State alleges that clients paid varying amounts of money for the purchase and importation of vehicles, but the vehicles were never delivered.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that Mafu allegedly misrepresented her ability to supply the vehicles.
“The accused falsely represented that she was able and willing to supply motor vehicles when she neither had the intention nor the capacity to fulfil the orders, thereby inducing complainants to part with their money,” the prosecutor submitted.
The prosecution alleges that complainants suffered losses amounting to US$624,958.96 (approximately R11.25 million) and ZiG1,275,878.
State Says Hazel Mafu Is A Flight Risk
The State opposed bail, arguing that Mafu could abscond if released before trial.
Prosecutors also told the court that she allegedly knows many of the complainants and has access to their contact details, raising concerns that witnesses could be interfered with.
“The accused is a flight risk and is likely to interfere with witnesses because she knows many of the complainants and has access to their personal contact details,” the State argued.
The defence completed its cross-examination of investigating officer Detective Sergeant Richard Maravanyika before both sides closed their arguments.
Court To Decide Bail Next Week
Magistrate Jesse Kufa reserved the ruling until 3 August 2026, when the court will determine whether Mafu will remain in custody or be released on bail as the fraud case continues.
The criminal proceedings against the Hezy Motors Logistics director will continue regardless of the outcome of the bail application.
