ZANU PF has won all four council by-elections held in Matabeleland North and Manicaland.
The ruling party captured Wards 9, 10 and 11 in Victoria Falls. It also secured Ward 3 in Mutare.
The victories saw ZANU PF reclaim all contested seats from opposition parties.
Political analysts linked the results to the party’s strong presence among communities. They also highlighted its development-focused approach as a key factor.
Analysts highlight voter confidence in ruling party
Analysts said the by-election results showed growing support for ZANU PF’s programmes.
Political Analyst Mr Takudzwa Gambiza said the victories demonstrated the party’s connection with ordinary citizens.
“The by-elections have given doubting Thomasses an insight into how ZANU PF is championing the needs of the people. This popularity also confirms that no one will go against the party so much loved by citizens. It was also an opportunity for Zimbabweans to have a glimpse of what could have happened if a referendum was held,” he said.
Meanwhile, Political Analyst Mr Dereck Goto said voters were recognising the party’s efforts.
“People are rewarding ZANU PF for economic stability, continuity as enshrined by the enactment of the Constitutional Amendment Act number three. The party has been delivering its promises and works on the ground speak for themselves,” he said.
Mnangagwa says ZANU PF will continue transformation agenda
The latest victories come as President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa said ZANU PF remains focused on national development.
Addressing the party’s politburo meeting, he said citizens had placed their confidence in ZANU PF.
“We are charting our own destiny and developing models for transformation that best suit our Zimbabwean circumstances. Through the recent Constitutional Amendments, the Party membership and people of our beloved motherland have bestowed immense trust on ZANU PF. It is thus incumbent on us to constantly enhance the manner in which we execute and dispense our weighty duties and responsibilities, in an ever-changing environment. As the senior Party leadership, let us remain mindful of the core characteristic of ZANU PF, that putting the ordinary people first and striving to improve their lives, in line with the Party Aims and Objectives. So far, the national vision 2030 is clearly articulated and being meticulously pursued. Going forward, our Party’s governance should do more to realise the intricate balance between expanding national wealth and the embedded objective of improving the well-being of our people,” he said.
Since the 2023 General Elections, ZANU PF has continued winning several by-elections.
The party has also introduced empowerment programmes supporting rural industrialisation.
Through its inclusive development strategy, ZANU PF says it aims to improve livelihoods across Zimbabwe.
