Thembinkosi Lorch Eyes Wydad Return As Transfer Talks Gather Pace
Thembinkosi Lorch could be heading back to Morocco just months after leaving Wydad Athletic Club, with reports indicating that negotiations are already underway over a possible return.
The South African attacker, who currently plays for Libyan side Al Ittihad SC, is understood to have expressed a desire to rejoin Wydad despite still being contracted to the Tripoli-based club until 2028.
Moroccan publication Le Matin reports that discussions have started between the two clubs as Wydad explore the possibility of bringing the experienced forward back to Casablanca.
Wydad reportedly want revised deal
Although Wydad are interested in re-signing Lorch, reports suggest the club is only prepared to proceed if the transfer is completed under new financial terms.
According to reports, the Moroccan giants are willing to offer the 33-year-old a shorter contract and a reduced salary compared to the deal he previously enjoyed during his first spell at the club.
The proposed conditions reportedly reflect the club’s long-term planning while taking into account Lorch’s age.
Despite the revised offer, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star is said to be open to returning and willing to accept most of Wydad’s demands, helping negotiations progress.
Successful first spell fuels interest
Lorch initially joined Wydad on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns in February 2025, where he reunited with former coach Rulani Mokwena.
He quickly became an important player, scoring five goals in 18 appearances during his loan spell before the Moroccan club exercised their option to sign him permanently.
Across both spells, Lorch made 29 appearances and scored 11 goals in the Botola Pro, CAF Confederation Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, including finding the net during the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
His impressive performances have reportedly convinced Wydad that he could strengthen their squad again as they prepare for the new season.
Transfer negotiations continue
Lorch left Wydad in February 2026 after completing a move to Al Ittihad, with reports claiming the Libyan club paid around €1.3 million (approximately R24.6 million) for his transfer. The overall value of the deal, including his salary over the length of the contract, has been reported at €3.55 million (about R67.2 million).
Reports also indicate that Wydad’s new leadership is reviewing matters linked to Lorch’s previous transfer from Mamelodi Sundowns, although details have not been disclosed.
For now, negotiations between Wydad and Al Ittihad are continuing, with the coming days expected to determine whether the South African forward secures a return to the Moroccan giants.
