FC Platinum recently dismissed coach Joel Luphahla after a difficult spell at the club.
Interim coach Moses Mwafulirwa must now guide the team through a challenging knockout fixture.
However, he believes the tournament can help restore confidence among the club’s supporters.
“We are very happy that this tournament will provide an opportunity for FC Platinum to appease our fans. We had very high expectations when we started the season, and we still want to do well. I think it’s going to be an exciting match,” he said.
Mwafulirwa will therefore hope his players respond positively against the reigning league champions.
The match also gives FC Platinum an opportunity to rebuild momentum after their league struggles.
Pure Platinum Play chase cup redemption
FC Platinum will also seek to erase memories of last year’s disappointing cup campaign.
The Zvishavane club suffered an early exit after losing 1-0 to Manica Diamonds.
That defeat came at Mandava Stadium, ending their hopes during the opening round.
This time, however, FC Platinum can use the competition to pursue another trophy.
