Three Chikurubi inmates face murder charges after fellow prisoner dies in violent incident

Three inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison face murder charges following the death of another prisoner.

Tafadzwa Musemani, 38, Panashe Muregude, 25, and Godfrey Zikumba, 23, appeared before the courts.

They remain in custody as prosecutors pursue the case against them.

Prison cell incident under investigation

Court documents state that the alleged killing happened on the 6th of this month.

The incident reportedly occurred inside the prison’s Psychiatric Unit.

The three accused allegedly shared a cell with the deceased prisoner.

Prosecutors claim the inmates attacked their fellow prisoner at around 7:15pm.

They allegedly restrained him while he lay on the cell floor.

According to the allegations, the trio tied his hands behind his back.

They also allegedly secured his legs using straps made from blankets.

Inmates face murder proceedings

Prosecutors further allege that the accused covered the prisoner’s head.

They reportedly used a jacket and towel during the alleged attack.

The court papers state that the coverings caused the prisoner to suffocate.

The three inmates now face murder charges under Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law Code.

Meanwhile, the court has remanded all three accused in custody.

They will remain behind bars pending the next stage of the proceedings.
