Zimbabwean Arrested After Police Seize Fake SA IDs, Printing Machine In Hillbrow
A Zimbabwean national has been arrested in Johannesburg after police uncovered an operation producing fraudulent South African identity documents in the Hillbrow policing precinct.
The arrest followed information received by police on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, concerning a man who was allegedly recruiting people seeking South African smart identity cards and other forged documents.

Police Raid Fake ID Operation
After verifying the information, police launched an operation in Hillbrow targeting the suspected illegal activities.
During the operation, officers searched the premises and seized six South African smart identity cards believed to be fraudulent, along with 22 blank smart identity cards.
A laptop and a smart card printing machine were also recovered during the search.
The Zimbabwean national was subsequently taken into custody and is expected to appear in court.
Investigations Continue
Police have not indicated how long the alleged operation had been running or how many people may have obtained fraudulent documents through it.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to establish the full extent of the suspected document-forging operation.
Police Warn Against Fake Documents
Police have warned members of the public against becoming involved in the manufacture or acquisition of fraudulent identity documents and other forged paperwork.
Members of the public with information about suspected illegal activities in their communities are encouraged to report it to the SAPS Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or anonymously through the MySAPS App.
