Zimbabwean Woman Gracious Nkomo Identified Among Nine Women Found Murdered In Kempton Park

The family of 28-year-old Zimbabwean woman Gracious Nkomo has identified her as one of the women whose bodies were discovered in the Kempton Park area of Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.

Nkomo was among three women found in the area on 10 September 2026, with her body discovered partially clothed along the R21. Her identity was confirmed by her family at the Germiston Mortuary on Thursday.

Family Confirms Nkomo’s Identity

The identification brings confirmation to Nkomo’s family following the discovery of her body last week.

South African Police Service (SAPS) investigations into her death are continuing alongside cases involving other women whose bodies have been found in Ekurhuleni in recent months.

Police have said nine women have been found murdered in the Ekurhuleni region since July, prompting intensified policing operations in the affected areas.

Police Investigations Continue

Acting National Commissioner of SAPS Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said a multidisciplinary team had been working on the cases and was following available leads to establish what happened to the victims.

Dimpane also conveyed condolences to Nkomo’s family and said investigators remained focused on identifying those responsible for the murders.

The police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

Calls Grow For Action Against GBV

The latest developments have also intensified calls for action against gender-based violence and femicide.

The #NotInMyName organisation held a campaign at Church Square in Pretoria, where men were encouraged to discuss attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence against women.

The organisation is also seeking public support for a pledge against gender-based violence, with General Secretary Themba Masango saying they are targeting more than 1,000 signatures by Sunday.

Masango said men had a responsibility to help address the crisis, citing figures he said showed that femicide in South Africa is six times higher than the global average.
