Zimsec’s 2026 Exam Papers Will Leave A Trail — Here’s How The System Works
Zimbabwean students sitting this year’s public examinations will face new security measures, with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) introducing traceable question papers and personalised answer sheets. The changes are aimed at tightening the examination process from the distribution of papers through to the writing of the exams.
ZIMSEC Tightens Security Around Exam Papers
The new system allows question papers to be linked back to the examination centres where they were allocated. This means that any suspected early access to examination materials can potentially be traced to their point of origin.
ZIMSEC public relations manager Nicky Dhlamini said preparations were already at an advanced stage ahead of the examinations.
“ZIMSEC is fully prepared for the start of the examinations. Question papers and stationery are already being distributed to the cluster centres ready for collection by centres.”
Personalised answer sheets will also be used as part of the security measures. The system is intended to make it harder for scripts to be substituted or unauthorised answers to be brought into examination rooms.
Grade 7 Exams Start On 21 September
The Grade Seven examinations are scheduled to begin on Monday, 21 September 2026, while Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations start on 12 October.
Dhlamini said security teams would monitor the process throughout.
“From printing to distribution and eventually the sitting of examinations, everything is closely monitored by security and loss-control teams.”
ZIMSEC said the measures are intended to help identify the source of any breach while protecting candidates who are not involved.
The council’s examination administration division oversees the production and distribution of examination materials to centres across Zimbabwe.
The 2026 examination season will therefore introduce additional layers of tracking and candidate identification as ZIMSEC seeks to strengthen examination security.
