Gabriel Mukambachaza, a Geo Pomona truck driver, has appeared in court over fresh robbery allegations. Mukambachaza is already serving a 21-year prison sentence for an armed robbery involving US$108 000.
He was escorted into the court building as he faced another set of allegations. The latest case also involves William Shereni Manase, who is facing similar robbery charges.
Mukambachaza returns to court
Mukambachaza was recently sentenced after pleading guilty to several offences. The offences included armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and unlawful firearm possession. The US$108 000 robbery occurred at Xinda Castings in Borders Estate, Ruwa.
According to court records, the gang attacked workers before escaping with the cash. Police later arrested Mukambachaza at his rural home in Rusape.
They recovered cash, firearms, ammunition, handcuffs and other suspected robbery equipment. The court ultimately imposed an effective 21-year prison sentence.
However, his legal troubles have continued despite that conviction. He has now been brought before the courts over another robbery case.
Manase linked to getaway vehicle
Manase is also facing allegations linked to the robbery investigation. Police previously identified him as one of the suspects wanted over the Ruwa robbery.
According to police, Manase was involved in a shoot-out with officers in Chitungwiza. He reportedly sustained a gunshot wound before escaping from the scene. Police recovered a Toyota Vitz after the confrontation.
Investigators have linked the vehicle to the wider robbery investigation. Manase allegedly acted as the driver who transported other suspects to the robbery scene.
He is also accused of driving the getaway vehicle after the alleged robbery. The latest court proceedings could provide further details about the allegations.
However, the charges remain allegations until determined by the courts. The case also highlights the continuing investigation into the robbery network.
Several other suspects linked to the US$108 000 case remain wanted by police. Authorities have continued efforts to establish each suspect’s alleged role in the robberies.
