Mnangagwa urges ZANU-PF leaders to put Zimbabweans first

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has challenged ZANU PF leaders to serve Zimbabweans with greater accountability.

He made the remarks while addressing the 132nd ZANU PF Central Committee session in Harare.

The President said leadership carries a major responsibility towards the people.

He urged leaders to measure their performance through improvements in Zimbabweans’ lives.

Mnangagwa demands accountable leadership

Mnangagwa said leaders must honour the confidence placed in them by the country.

He stressed that leadership should focus on service rather than personal interests.

“CAA3 is an extension of the trust bestowed to us by Zimbabwe. We have an obligation to continue servant leadership and accountability. Our stewardship must be measured by the betterment of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa called for closer cooperation across Government.

He said leaders must work collectively when tackling national challenges.

“National responsibility requires a whole-of-Government approach; hence, we should put our hands together and develop practical solutions,” he said.

The President also pointed to progress within Zimbabwe’s economy.

He said Government’s push for value addition and beneficiation continues to gather momentum.

“Our economy continues to improve and thus building towards sustainable development. Our value addition and beneficiation agenda continues to gain momentum, which sees us enhancing our economic sovereignty,” President Mnangagwa said.

President highlights Zimbabwe’s global engagement

Mnangagwa also reflected on his recent attendance at the United Nations General Assembly.

He said the engagement allowed Zimbabwe to reaffirm its support for multilateral cooperation.

“My recent participation at UNGA provided a crucial platform for us to reaffirm our commitment to multilateralism and peace,” he said.

Furthermore, he said Zimbabwe wants stronger cooperation with countries around the world.

However, he also called for changes to the international system.

“I conveyed our readiness to deepen cooperation with the international community and further underlined the need for a fair and more representative order that represents everyone, especially the Global South,” he said.

Mnangagwa then urged Zimbabweans to maintain unity as the country pursues development.

He highlighted hard work, honesty and innovation as important drivers of national progress.

“With unity of purpose, hard, honest work and innovation, there is no challenge. Let us continue to build our motherland of Zimbabwe brick by brick,” President Mnangagwa said.
