Wicknell Chivayo’s ex-wife Sonja Madzikanda has joined mourners at his Gletwin mansion as family members gather following his death in a helicopter crash.

Madzikanda arrived at the property on Friday, 2 October 2026, accompanied by her mother, Tabitha. The appearance marks one of the first public moments involving Chivayo’s former wife since the businessman and his wife, Lucy Muteke, died in the crash on Wednesday.

Sonja and Chivayo shared two children

Madzikanda and Chivayo were previously together and have two children. Their relationship later ended, and the former couple became involved in a lengthy legal dispute over their relationship, property, and the welfare of their children.

The High Court proceedings attracted considerable attention earlier in 2026. In April, the court approved a consent settlement covering the children’s maintenance and parenting arrangements.

Funeral gathering moves to Gletwin

The funeral proceedings moved to Chivayo’s Gletwin property on Friday as relatives continued arriving.

ZimLive reported that Madzikanda had joined mourners at the house and was accompanied by her mother. The outlet also reported that the couple’s two children were receiving counselling.

The family is simultaneously dealing with the formal identification process following the crash, with DNA testing underway as authorities work to match remains to the victims.

For Sonja, her arrival at the Gletwin mansion places Chivayo’s former family alongside relatives mourning the businessman and Lucy as funeral arrangements continue.
