Our #WCW today is DJ King Her, a trailblazing Zimbabwean open-format DJ, radio host, television presenter, graphic designer, and producer.
Born Natsumi Miyata in Harare, Zimbabwe, DJ King Her’s unique blend of cultures has significantly influenced her artistic journey. Her Japanese father and Chinese-Zimbabwean mother instilled in her a rich cultural heritage.
Growing up, DJ King Her discovered her artistic side early on, excelling in painting and graphic design. She attended Dominican Convent School, developing her creative skills. Her passion for music and dance was also evident, inspired by Zimbabwean music shows on ZBCtv, such as Ezomgido, where she learned iconic dance moves from Alick Macheso and Simon Chimbetu.
After completing high school, DJ King Her pursued tertiary education in South Africa, graduating with a diploma in multimedia and graphic design. Her professional journey began in quality assurance auditing for pharmaceuticals, marketing, sales, and social media.
However, her true calling was in the entertainment industry. DJ King Her’s fascination with music and performance led her to become a television presenter and radio host. She networked with local DJs, eventually breaking into the club circuit.
DJ King Her’s music career took off with her debut single, “Kuonga,” meaning “to be thankful.” Her unique sound blends Zimbabwean traditional instruments with modern genres. As an open-format DJ, she plays various genres, creating high-energy sets.
Her achievements include collaborating with international artists, such as Shermanology, Verseless, and featuring on “Jabula,” a Techno x Afro Jacking House x Amapiano hit. DJ King Her has performed at Amplifaya Fest, leaving audiences in awe.
Currently, she’s working on her extended play and preparing to launch King Her Academy, mentoring aspiring DJs. Her legacy aims to elevate Zimbabwe’s music scene, unite creatives, and inspire future generations.
