TechMagTV Boss Alleges Assault by Joachim Chivhayo’s Security at Funeral

TechMagTV Editor-in-Chief and CEO Toneo Toneo has alleged that security personnel linked to Joachim Chivhayo assaulted him while covering the Chivhayo family funeral.

Toneo said the incident occurred on October 8, 2026, after disagreements over media coverage at the family residence.

In a media statement, he claimed three men attacked him along Gletwin Road while he was broadcasting live near the funeral convoy.

How the Dispute Escalated

According to Toneo, he and his crew initially visited the Chivhayo residence to obtain funeral programme updates.

He contacted family spokesperson Herbert Chivhayo, who reportedly suggested addressing journalists from several media organisations together.

Toneo then invited colleagues from The Herald, ZBC and other media outlets to attend the planned press conference.

However, he alleged that Joachim Chivhayo, known as G6, confronted him and demanded that he stop recording.

Toneo said Herbert subsequently insisted that media coverage should continue without interference.

After the press conference, journalists travelled to a funeral parlour to collect the bodies.

However, the situation allegedly escalated during their return journey along Gletwin Road.

Toneo claimed G6 shouted at the journalists before a white SUV blocked their vehicle.

He alleged that three security personnel emerged from the SUV and attacked him with clenched fists and open-handed slaps.

According to his statement, the assault lasted approximately 20 seconds before the men returned to their vehicle.

Journalist Reports Injuries and Seeks Police Action

Toneo said he sustained several injuries, including loosened lower teeth, a swollen eye and severe jaw pain.

He confirmed filing a police report at Highlands Police Station under reference number RRB 6847154.

The TechMagTV editor said his legal counsel would assist him as he pursues the matter.

He also called on authorities to investigate the allegations thoroughly and ensure accountability through due process.

Despite the incident, Toneo reaffirmed his commitment to journalism and reporting matters of public interest.

“Journalism is not a crime, and no journalist should be physically attacked or intimidated for documenting events and reporting matters of public interest,” he said.

Toneo also acknowledged his previously respectful working relationship with fellow journalist DJ Ollah.

He stressed that funeral arrangements must receive respect but should never justify violence against journalists.

The allegations have raised concerns about journalists’ safety while covering sensitive public events.

However, the allegations against the individuals involved require proper investigation, and responsibility must be established through due process.
