Bulawayo water cut: 28 suburbs face 10-hour supply disruption on friday

Bulawayo residents in 28 suburbs face a 10-hour water supply interruption on Friday. The city council will suspend supplies to allow essential repairs at Ncema Water Treatment Works.

Town Clerk Christopher Dube announced the planned shutdown in a public notice issued on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The interruption will run from 8 AM to 6 PM on Friday, 23 October.

The council said the repairs will address critical pipe problems at the treatment facility. Officials also aim to reduce water losses, improve system pressure and strengthen the reliability of supplies.

These Bulawayo Suburbs Will Be Affected

The scheduled shutdown will affect areas supplied by the Tuli Reservoir. The affected suburbs include:

  • Holiday Inn, Ascot, Khumalo and Suburbs
  • Parklands, Queens Park, Mahatshula and Woodville
  • Kingsdale, Hopeville, Killarney and Fairbridge
  • Lochview, Sunninghill, Riverside and Marlands
  • Glencoe, Waterford, Manningdale and Willsgrove
  • Buena Vista, Douglasdale, Fortunes Gate and Selborne Park
  • Matsheumhlophe, Mqabuko Heights and Imbizo Barracks

Surrounding areas may also experience the interruption. Meanwhile, the council warned that the affected suburbs’ usual water-shedding schedules would temporarily change during the repairs.

Council Advises Residents to Store Water

The city has urged residents to prepare for the interruption by storing enough water for essential household needs. It has also encouraged consumers to use their available supplies sparingly.

Residents should keep their taps closed throughout the shutdown. This precaution will prevent water wastage if supplies return earlier than expected.

The council said it would restore supplies after completing the repairs and restarting pumping operations at Ncema Water Treatment Works. The system will then need time to recharge the Tuli pipelines and reservoir to satisfactory levels.

However, residents should expect possible pressure challenges after supplies resume. Consumers living on higher ground may experience low water pressure while the system stabilises.

Residents should therefore make adequate preparations before the scheduled shutdown begins on Friday morning.
