New Statistics Reflect Rising Rates
Bindura has recently overtaken Mazowe as the leading area for new HIV infections in Mashonaland Central province, marking a significant shift in the region’s health landscape.
With an alarming prevalence rate of 8.85 percent, Bindura has become the focal point for HIV infections, followed closely by Shamva at 8.53 percent.
Mazowe, once the hotspot with a prevalence rate of 8.43 percent, has experienced a decline in new infections thanks to the interventions of the National AIDS Council (NAC).
The NAC’s micro-planning model has played a pivotal role in reducing the infection rates in Mazowe. This model specifically targets thigh vendors, many of whom are drawn to the area due to gold mining and agricultural activities
