Zimbabweans have reacted with disbelief and criticism after musician Chillmaster made a dramatic U-turn and pleaded guilty to charges of culpable homicide and driving without a valid licence—barely 24 hours after denying the charges in court.

State Offered Withdrawal — But Defence Pushed Back
During Wednesday’s proceedings, Chillmaster pleaded not guilty to charges of culpable homicide and driving without a driver’s license.
Prosecutor Idrissa Mustapha Mupandasekwa indicated that the State was open to withdrawing the charge of driving without a license, provided Chillmaster’s legal team could produce the document or agree to a statement of facts.
Instead of complying, Chillmaster’s lawyers insisted on proceeding to trial, arguing that the State was rushing to close the case without proper procedure.
Chillmaster Pleads Guilty
In a surprising twist, Chillmaster has reversed his stance and pleaded guilty to charges of culpable homicide and driving without a valid driver’s licence—just one day after initially pleading not guilty.
The unexpected plea was made today before Magistrate Tatenda Mukurunge, leaving many stunned by the swift turnaround.
His change of heart has triggered speculation over what might have prompted the reversal
