‘Unwarranted and Mischievous Attacks’ The Ministry of Health Addresses Minister Machakaire’s Recent Concerns About Public Hospitals

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has acknowledged recent social media concerns about  Zimbabwe’s public hospital state.

This comes after the Minister of Youth Empowerment and Development and Vocational training raised serious concerns on social media after visiting one of the biggest public hospitals.

In the post, the minister expressed concern about the state of public healthcare and called upon the President to visit the hospitals to observe their current condition.

Ministry of Health Responds To Machakaire’s Concerns

The Ministry has called the public’s concerns on social media, and the Minister attacks.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has taken note of recent negative remarks circulating on social media, which appear to form part of a broader pattern of unwarranted and mischievous attacks.

The statement further called the raised concerns efforts to show only the challenges. They further stated that people are overlooking the good things that the ministry is doing. The Ministry emphasised that they are still providing services despite not having resources.

These comments seem to be well-orchestrated efforts aimed at selectively highlighting challenges within the public healthcare system, while deliberately overlooking the critical services still being provided—often under resource-constrained conditions—and the significant progress made in recent years.

The Ministry further elaborated that they respect the need for people to air their concerns and will accept informed criticism based on facts that do not undermine the work of the Ministry and healthcare professionals.

The Ministry is open to meaningful dialogue and informed critique; however, we strongly reject narratives that unfairly undermine the tireless efforts of our healthcare professionals and ignore the notable achievements underway across the country.

The Ministry of Health has shared the notable achievements they have been made under the second republic as follows:

  • Healthcare Training: Expanded programs to enhance the skills of medical personnel.

  • Advanced Surgeries: Successful open-heart surgeries at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
  • Telemedicine: Showcased cutting-edge remote healthcare solutions in Gokwe North.
