Magistrate Cites Prejudice Suffered During Trial
In his ruling, Shortgame said Mubaiwa had endured mental, physical and financial prejudice during the lengthy proceedings.
The decision came after the State sought to postpone the trial to November 25, saying it needed more time to engage witnesses.
The prosecution’s application would have further delayed the case, which is now in its seventh year.
Life Support Allegations At Centre Of Case
Mubaiwa had been accused of attempting to end Chiwenga’s life by unplugging his life support system while he was hospitalised in South Africa.
The charge centred on the alleged incident during the Vice President’s medical treatment.
The acquittal brings an end to this particular charge against Mubaiwa.
