Malawi FA Reveals Why Kalisto Pasuwa Was Hospitalised in South Africa

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Referees Sub-committee Chairperson, Patrick Kapanga, has revealed why national team coach Kalisto Pasuwa was rushed to hospital in South Africa.

This comes amid reports that Pasuwa will miss Malawi’s crucial 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against South Africa, scheduled for Monday, 12 May, due to a sudden illness.

Why Kalisto Pasuwa Was Hospitalised in South Africa

Kapanga, who is leading the Malawian delegation in South Africa, told 247Malawi that Pasuwa was taken to a hospital in Pretoria on Friday, 9 May, after experiencing chest pains. He is currently admitted to the Med Clinic, where he’s receiving treatment.

With Pasuwa sidelined, assistant coach Peter Mponda is expected to take charge when the Flames face Bafana Bafana in the return leg at Loftus Stadium.

Malawi goes into the match with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, thanks to a goal by Zelliat Nkhoma. A win or a draw will be enough to see the team qualify for the CHAN finals, which will be hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda in August this year.
