In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, 12 May, the Ministry announced that mobilisation is already underway for the major infrastructure project. They also shared a sleek 3D model of the proposed flyover.

“Mobilisation is now underway in preparation for the construction of a Grade Separation Structure (flyover) at the Simon Mazorodze/Willowvale Road Junction, a key infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic efficiency and safety. We are pleased to share the 3D model,” the post reads.

However, the Ministry did not reveal when construction is expected to begin.

Mixed Reactions from Zimbabweans

While some social media users welcomed the project and praised Transport Minister Felix Mhona for pushing ahead with infrastructure upgrades, others were less convinced.

Critics questioned the timing and priorities of the government, arguing that basic road maintenance and development outside Harare should come first.

Here’s how some users reacted:

@MadzivaNehemiah:

Let’s start with the basics, roads like these before all these !! Basic infrastructure is a priority before money laundering projects like these!!

@mapipimakuru:

Wait for it, when you hear the cost of this. The cost will be the shock of our lives. Mukana wamuka zvekare.

Ko mamwe macities zvichasvikawo riini. Seems like Harare yega ndiyo irikugadzirwa maroads.

@IYDFFWYWDCFWYL:

Ko makambogadzira dzatinadzo dzachoo for now …. dualisation & re-surfacing will go a long way.

@GMugiyo:

Pamwe pacho munozonyepa zvinonyangadza. Is there any provision 4 such a development in place? Only South Africa knew that they would need to expand to accommodate volumes of traffic, & they left room for expansion. Rhodesians left RGM road wide & you turned it into vehicle sales.
