Adventurous Springboks captain Siya Kolisi recently swapped his rugby boots for hiking boots, as he tackled the breathtaking—and breath-snatching—heights of Cusco, Peru.
Currently in Peru ahead of a friend’s wedding, Siya Kolisi has been making the most of his time in the scenic South American country.
True to his energetic and fun-loving nature, the rugby star took on a hiking trail in the picturesque city of Cusco—one of Peru’s most renowned historic sites and the gateway to Machu Picchu.
Siya Kolisi Hiking Adventure in Cusco, Peru
Kolisi shared a series of pictures and videos from his hike on social media, showcasing breathtaking mountain views, rustic trails, and panoramic scenery. However, it wasn’t all smooth climbing.
In true Siya fashion, he added a humorous caption that had fans laughing:
“Cusco
yho altitude matters
bekufiwa kulaHike.”
Loosely translated from isiXhosa, “bekufiwa kulaHike” means “we were dying on that hike,” referencing the thin air and steep climbs associated with Cusco’s high elevation—over 3,400 meters (11,000 feet) above sea level.
