Tensions ran high at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday, 31 May 2025, as MWOS FC edged out rivals Scottland FC 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown packed with action, goals, and tempers.

The match, played in front of a buzzing crowd, saw MWOS striker Billy Veremu break the deadlock in the 53rd minute. After his initial header was parried away by Scottland’s goalie Bernard Chadya, Veremu pounced on the rebound to score the match’s only goal—his ninth of the season.

The win pushes MWOS, also known as the Punters, to 30 points after 14 matches—four ahead of second place and a comfortable seven points ahead of Scottland, who sit third on the table. It’s also MWOS’ 14th match unbeaten this season.

The game took an unexpected turn in the 67th minute when referee Thabani Ruzariro picked up an injury and collapsed on the turf. Play was halted for over 10 minutes while he received treatment, before fourth official Lloyd Mapanje stepped in to officiate the remainder of the clash.

Despite the hiccup, MWOS held firm and sealed a hard-fought win to strengthen their title charge.

The drama didn’t end with the final whistle. A video shared online shows a heated scuffle breaking out between players from both teams after the match. MWOS goalkeeper Francis Tizayi appeared especially fired up and had to be held back by teammates.

It’s still unclear what sparked the altercation, but the tension on the pitch had clearly spilled over. No official statements have been made regarding any disciplinary action or investigations.
