Kirkman Road Alert: Transport Ministry to Shut Down Key Junctions for a Week
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced that two key road junctions will be temporarily closed to allow crucial repair work to continue.
In a public notice posted on Monday, 9 June 2025, on the ministry’s official X account, the roadworks are scheduled to run from Tuesday, 10 June, to Sunday, 15 June. The closures will affect the junctions at Solomon Mujuru (Kirkman) Road and Sherwood Drive, as well as Bishop Gaul Avenue and Solomon Mujuru (Kirkman) Road.
The ministry, working with contractor Tarcon (Pvt) Ltd, explained that these closures are part of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2). The goal is to fix and improve these busy intersections to ensure smoother traffic flow in the future.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, in collaboration with Tarcon (Pvt) Ltd, wishes to inform the public of temporary traffic disruptions to facilitate the resumption of critical road rehabilitation works under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2). From Tuesday, 10 June 2025, to Sunday,15 June 2025, construction work will take place at the junction of Solomon Mujuru (Kirkman) Road and Sherwood Drive, as well as the junction of Bishop Gaul Avenue and Solomon Mujuru (Kirkman) Road,” the notice partly reads.
Drivers are being warned to expect some delays, lane closures, and partial roadblocks during this period. To avoid congestion, motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes like Samora Machel Avenue or Lomagundi Road. Pedestrian access will still be allowed, but with temporary detours.
“During this period, motorists should expect partial road closures, lane restrictions, and possible delays. The public is advised to use alternative routes, such as Samora Machel Avenue or Lomagundi Road, and to exercise caution when navigating the areas. Pedestrian access will remain open with temporary diversions in place. The Ministry regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation as we work towards enhancing the country’s road infrastructure,” the public notice ends.
