PSL Issues Statement After FC Platinum, Dynamos Match Abandoned
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially responded to the chaos that unfolded at Mandava Stadium on Sunday, 21 June 2025, after a Castle Lager Premiership clash between Dynamos and FC Platinum was abandoned due to a controversial penalty decision.
The game was cut short following a referee’s call that sparked outrage, and now the PSL is stepping in.
PSL Waiting for Official Reports Before Taking Action
In a statement released by PSL media liaison Kudzai Bare, the league confirmed the match was indeed abandoned and said they are currently waiting for the referee’s report before making any decisions.
“The Premier Soccer League wishes to advise its stakeholders that the Castle Lager PSL match between FC Platinum and Dynamos FC played at Mandava Stadium on Sunday, 22 June 2025, was abandoned. We await the Match Officials’ reports on this matter for determination according to the PSL rules and regulations,” part of the statement reads.
As part of the process, the PSL has also asked both Dynamos and FC Platinum to submit written reports explaining what happened from their side.
“Both clubs will also be requested to submit written reports on the events that transpired,” Bare added.
Bare said the league is taking the matter seriously and won’t tolerate the kind of misconduct that leads to matches being abandoned. She warned that anyone found responsible will face penalties, as laid out in league rules.
She also apologised to fans and stakeholders for the disruption, but stressed that the league will not comment further until all reports are in.
“The PSL strongly condemns any acts of misconduct that lead to the abandonment of matches, and those found guilty will face the full wrath of the prescribed penalties. The PSL regrets any inconvenience caused to its members, stakeholders and partners. No further statement will be issued until all relevant match reports are received,” the statement concludes.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Earlier this season, another game, Matchday 13 between Scottland FC and Chicken Inn, was also abandoned in the 89th minute after a controversial penalty sparked chaos at Rufaro Stadium.
