Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan has slammed KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi recently accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya of criminal conduct.
O’Sullivan said Mkhwanazi had no legal authority to make such explosive public allegations.
He told Newzroom Afrika the commissioner had “overstepped his mark” by attacking government institutions.
“He crossed the line,” O’Sullivan stated. “This is not a provincial commissioner’s job. He must go — the sooner, the better.”
CALLS FOR SUSPENSION AND JUDICIAL INQUIRY
O’Sullivan revealed he had written to the Police Minister. He demanded a judicial inquiry into Mkhwanazi’s conduct and an immediate suspension.
He also called for the national commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, to be suspended.
“If Masemola approved this, they should both go down together,” O’Sullivan warned.
PRESS BRIEFING DRAMA AND TASK FORCE UNIFORM
O’Sullivan blasted Mkhwanazi’s Sunday press briefing. He criticised the commissioner’s choice to wear a Special Task Force uniform.
“He’s not part of that unit. Why dress like them?” he questioned.
Mkhwanazi was flanked by armed, masked officers holding R5 rifles.
“Was he trying to intimidate the government? The police? The public?” O’Sullivan asked.
He said the scene looked “dangerously suspicious” and could be seen as threatening a coup.
MKHWANAZI DEFENDS HIMSELF AND TARGETS THE MINISTER
During the same press briefing, Mkhwanazi claimed he was ready to die for the police badge.
He accused Minister Mchunu of political interference.
Mkhwanazi alleged that Mchunu shut down the political killings task team without consulting police leadership.
He also said phone records linked one of Mchunu’s associates to criminal networks.
Mkhwanazi announced plans to lay criminal charges against the minister.
The police war has gone public — and it’s just heating up.
