Scottland FC To Host Nsingizini At National Sports Stadium In Historic Champions League Debut
Scottland FC’s first taste of continental football will now take place in Harare after the club secured the green light to use the National Sports Stadium for its CAF Champions League opener.
The Zimbabwean champions had been preparing to play their home fixture outside the country because the stadium was previously unavailable for CAF matches.
That changed after the Harare venue secured Category 3 approval, allowing Scottland to bring the historic encounter back home.

Home Crowd To Witness Club’s Continental Debut
The decision is a major boost for Scottland, who are entering the Champions League for the first time after a remarkable rise to the top of Zimbabwean football.
The club won the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in its first season in the top flight.
Secretary-general Fortune Bgwoni said playing the opening leg in Harare gives the team an opportunity to experience the occasion with its supporters behind it.
“For us, this is very important because we wanted to play at home, and now we have the opportunity to host Nsingizini at the National Sports Stadium,” Bgwoni said.
“This is our first CAF Champions League campaign, so we want to make the most of our home advantage.”
Stadium Approval Ends Years Of Exile
The return of international club football to the National Sports Stadium is also significant for Zimbabwe.
The country’s premier football venue had been unable to host international matches since 2021 because it failed to meet the required infrastructure standards.
That situation forced Zimbabwean clubs and the national team to look elsewhere when CAF fixtures were scheduled.
The stadium’s new Category 3 status has now opened the door for Scottland to stage its continental debut in the capital.
Familiar Opponents, Different Stakes
Scottland will face Nsingizini Hotspurs of Eswatini in the preliminary round.
The two sides are not complete strangers, having already met during pre-season.
However, Bgwoni believes their competitive meeting will carry a completely different intensity.
“We know Nsingizini very well, and we respect them, but this is now a competitive CAF Champions League match and the circumstances are different,” he said.
Scottland’s priority will be to build an advantage before making the trip to Eswatini.
“We want to get a positive result at home before we travel to Eswatini for the second leg,” added Bgwoni.
The first encounter will be played between September 4 and 6, with the decisive return leg expected the following weekend.
Scottland Prepare For Eswatini Conditions
The club is also taking steps to ensure its players are ready for the conditions awaiting them in Eswatini.
Scottland is constructing an artificial training surface at its High Performance Centre in Ruwa.
The facility will allow the squad to familiarise itself with an artificial pitch ahead of the away match, with Nsingizini also accustomed to playing on a similar surface.
With their home venue now secured, Scottland can turn its attention fully to making a strong start to its maiden Champions League campaign.
