Makro to cancel customer orders after weekend app glitch

Makro shoppers who were under the impression they’d scored high-end products at a fraction of the cost over the weekend will have their orders cancelled.

Following a glitch on the Makro app on Saturday, the prices of hundreds of products from Apple MacBooks and Saeco Espresso machines dropped from R16,000 to just over R50 per unit.

Makro’s parent company Massmart said they had identified the error and taken the necessary steps to rectify it.

Massmart Vice President Brian Leroni: “On Saturday evening, we identified a technical error that was causing obvious underpricing on the Makro shopping app and websites. This was completely unintentional. We have subsequently apologized to those customers affected and also advised them that we will unfortunately be canceling the orders placed.”
