The body of Albert Simbarashe Muchenga, who drowned in Lake Kariba after reportedly jumping off the Silverstone Boat, has been recovered by police divers.
Muchenga’s body was retrieved from a depth of approximately 25 metres within 15 minutes after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Subaqua Unit launched a search operation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday while the vessel was stopped at Msamba Fishing Camp to offload passengers and cargo.

Police Divers Recover Muchenga’s Body
According to details emerging from the incident, other passengers reportedly saw Muchenga enter the water and immediately alerted authorities.
The ZRP Subaqua Unit was deployed to search for him, with divers managing to locate and retrieve his body within 15 minutes of entering the lake.
Muchenga’s recovery brought an end to the search operation, although investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are continuing.
Speculation Surrounds Circumstances Of Death
Speculation is mounting that Muchenga may have deliberately jumped into Lake Kariba while the boat was offloading at the fishing camp.
Initial accounts from passengers and local residents have suggested that he may have taken his own life. However, this has not been officially established, and authorities have not confirmed the circumstances leading to his death.
Silverstone Boat Had Recently Resumed Operations
Muchenga’s death comes shortly after the Silverstone Boat resumed services during the first week of October.
The vessel returned to operation following a traditional cleansing ceremony conducted by Chief Mola.
Authorities have not established any connection between Tuesday’s incident and the boat’s operations.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
