Buhera Woman Jailed For Trafficking Minor To Truck Drivers As Thigh Vendor

A Buhera woman has been condemned to a decade behind bars for the heinous crime of trafficking a 14-year-old girl to truck drivers. The Mutare Magistrate’s Court delivered the stern sentence this week, bringing a measure of justice for the young victim whose trust was brutally betrayed.

Pelagia Zindiye, aged 30, was found guilty of human trafficking after the court heard how she cunningly manipulated the minor. The ordeal began on the 29th of June this year, when Zindiye approached the girl with a deceptive promise.

Details of the Case

The prosecution detailed how Zindiye convinced the juvenile to travel with her to Mutare under the false pretence of collecting some belongings. Acting on this lie, the victim secretly departed from her family home the following day.

Upon their arrival in the city, they met Steward Gororo, a truck driver who authorities are still searching for. It was at this meeting that the woman’s true, monstrous intentions were revealed.

In a cold-hearted transaction, Zindiye accepted a sum of US$40 (approximately R720) from Gororo as payment for the child’s sexual services. She then abandoned the girl with the man. A source close to the investigation recounted the grim details, stating,

“The offender left the victim with Gororo and collected US$40 as payment for sexual services to be rendered by the victim.”

Gororo subsequently took the minor to a restaurant, where he isolated her in a private room, locked the door, and raped her.

Following the brutal assault, the traumatised girl managed to contact Zindiye. Instead of offering help or reporting the crime, the woman compounded her cruelty by instructing the victim to remain silent about the entire incident. She ordered her not to disclose the matter to anyone, attempting to bury the crime in a veil of fear and complicity. This attempt to cover up the atrocity was, however, short-lived.

The law soon intervened after the police received a tip-off from a concerned member of the public. The evidence against her was overwhelming, leading to her arrest and subsequent prosecution.
