A 50-year-old Nyabira man appeared in court, accused of culpable homicide following a horrific 6 dogs attack that claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl.
Gift Jambaya, of St Mannocks farm, was brought before the Chinhoyi Regional Court, with the state vehemently opposing his release on bail. The case has sent shockwaves through the area, raising urgent questions about the responsibility of pet owners.
13-Year-Old Girl Mauled To Death By 6 Dogs
The court heard harrowing details of the incident, which occurred on 30 September 2025. Allegations state that Jambaya left his residence with his six cross-breed dogs unattended and unsecured. As Caroline Chari and fellow pupils walked home from school, the pack of dogs gave chase. While the other children managed to escape to safety, Caroline was not so fortunate. She was set upon by the animals.

A search party was later organised, which discovered the teenager’s remains. The scene was described as deeply traumatic, with Caroline’s body bearing the evidence of a vicious assault. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reported that she had sustained multiple deep cuts and severe dog bites.

In a move that reflects the seriousness of the allegations, the state is firmly against the accused being granted bail. This case is one of the many rising cases of fatal dog attacks throughout Zimbabwe.
A representative from the NPAZ confirmed the legal stance, stating,
“The State is opposing bail. The accused person has been remanded in custody whilst awaiting a continuation of his bail hearing.”
