The post ended with a plea for families to urgently check on their loved ones as most passengers had been left without phones.
Police Attend The Scene As Investigations Begin
Following the frantic online post, The Chronicle confirmed that emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Police are now investigating the incident.
The publication reported:
“Two people were allegedly shot dead during the incident. Though authorities have yet to release official confirmation. Details surrounding the hijacking remain sketchy, and police investigations are ongoing.”
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that may help identify and apprehend the suspects involved in the deadly attack.
A Recurring Nightmare For Cross-Border Travel
This is not the first time buses bound for Zimbabwe have been targeted. Zimbabwe has long battled with cross-border crimes, including bus robberies on major routes linking South Africa, Mozambique, and Botswana. Criminals often prey on travellers carrying cash or goods, but this latest attack has taken a devastating turn with two reported fatalities.
