Ministry Warns Of Delays As Harare Drive Closes For Almost A Month
A major section of Harare Drive will be closed for nearly a month, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced. The closure will run from 14 October to 10 November 2025 to allow for road rehabilitation works.
Section To Be Closed
In a public notice issued on 10 October 2025, the Ministry confirmed the temporary closure of the busy stretch.
The statement read:
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development wishes to advise the motoring public of a temporary road closure of Harare Drive from Houghton Park Roundabout (Chinzou) to Gleneagles/Highfield Road junction to facilitate road rehabilitation works.”
The affected section links Houghton Park to Gleneagles/Highfield and is a key route for motorists travelling between southern Harare and the industrial zones.
Alternative Routes Advised
Motorists have been urged to plan ahead and use detours.
According to the Ministry of Transport,
“Traffic from Waterfalls, Chitungwiza and Masvingo should use the Glen Norah (High Glen) route via the Trabablas Interchange or proceed North from Houghton Park Roundabout, then turn into Willowvale Road.”
Access to the Hunter and Crag Allan industrial area will still be possible through Orme Road and Soutter Road. A large temporary roundabout will also be installed at the Harare Drive/Willowvale intersection.
The Ministry stressed:
“Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time for delays. Please exercise patience, caution, and obey all road signs and traffic controllers.”
Upgrade Works Underway
The closure comes under the “Kilometre by Kilometre” programme aimed at upgrading key road networks.
The Ministry added:
“The Ministry regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation and patience during this essential infrastructure upgrade.”
The announcement has drawn attention online, with drivers sharing concerns about congestion in Glen Norah and Willowvale. The Ministry has assured the public that clear signage will be in place to help manage traffic flow.
