Viral ‘Self-Proclaimed Police Boss’ Found Mentally Unfit, Sent to Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit
Constable Simbarashe Mandizvidza, the Zimbabwean police officer who made headlines in August after announcing himself as the new police boss, has been committed to Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit.
This follows a court ruling declaring him mentally unfit to stand trial.

Court Declares Mandizvidza Mentally Unfit
According to ZimLive, Harare Magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai made the decision after reviewing medical assessments from two State doctors and a private practitioner. All three concluded that Mandizvidza was not mentally fit to face prosecution.
As a result, the court ordered that he be held at Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit indefinitely. His trial will only resume if doctors later confirm his recovery.
Viral Videos Sparked Controversy
Mandizvidza gained public attention when several videos of him went viral on social media. In the recordings, filmed at his residence at ZRP Hatfield Police Camp, he declared himself the new head of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and gave all Chinese nationals living and working in Zimbabwe 48 hours to leave the country.
These outbursts led to multiple charges, including transmitting false information with intent to cause harm, causing disaffection among police or defence forces, and violating the Road Traffic Act.
Accused of Stealing Police Vehicle
Authorities also accused Mandizvidza of unlawfully taking a police vehicle.
He reportedly told his superior, Fidios Chiteure, who serves at Police General Headquarters Pay and Records, that he had been sent by Commissioner Makomo to collect a Ford Ranger for official use.
The vehicle was later found in Waerera Village, Bindura.
