Midnight Horror: Truck Overturns After Honda Fit Collision

Two people have died after a Honda Fit collided with a truck carrying building slats at Susunje River along the Harare–Chirundu Highway. The crash occurred around 11 PM on Tuesday, 14 October, and left the truck overturned at the notorious blackspot.

Police Confirm Fatal Crash

According to ZBC News Online, the Honda Fit, which had two occupants, was travelling towards Chirundu when it collided head-on with the truck, which was on its way from Kariba to Harare.

Mashonaland West ZRP spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the tragedy. He said investigations were being handled at the national level.

Inspector Kohwera told the press:

“Yes, I can confirm the accident. Two people died on the spot after the Honda Fit collided with the truck. The case has since been referred to national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.”

Susunje River Blackspot

The accident happened at the Susunje River stretch, a known danger point along the busy Harare–Chirundu Highway. The road is notorious for head-on collisions, especially at night.

Eyewitnesses who arrived shortly after the crash said the impact was severe, with debris scattered across the highway. One witness said:

“We saw the Honda Fit badly damaged and the truck lying on its side. It was a frightening sight.” [I cannot verify this]

Investigations Underway

Police said they are still piecing together the exact circumstances that led to the accident. National spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi is expected to issue a detailed statement.

For now, authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving at night, especially along known blackspots such as the Susunje River.
