The quiet village of Semchengwe in Redcliff has been rocked by a scandal of the most peculiar kind, leaving residents aghast after a local man was convicted for an unthinkable act with a goat. The court heard how Stephen Musongwe, 40, was apprehended after his former employer discovered him in a compromising position with the animal, putting a sordid end to what neighbours are darkly referring to as a longstanding “relationship.”
The illicit encounter unfolded on the morning of 14 August 2025, when Musongwe, a former employee of the goat’s owner, allegedly crept back onto the property. He was not there to steal, but to commit an act that has sent shockwaves through the community. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) provided a stark account of the events, stating that the owner himself stumbled upon the scene, catching Musongwe in the act.

Villagers, still reeling from the news, have been whispering about the possibility that this was not an isolated incident. One local, who wished to remain anonymous, suggested that Musongwe’s connection to the animal was not new.
“During his time working here, we suspected something was not right,” the neighbour claimed. “It seems he came back for a last visit to his four-legged lover (mudiwa wemakumbo mana).”
The NPAZ was unequivocal in its description of the crime. In an official statement, they confirmed, “The offender went to the pen and had sexual intercourse with the goat. He was caught in the act by the owner and he fled the scene. The owner had already identified him leading to his arrest.” Musongwe’s attempt to escape, reportedly with his trousers in his hand, was futile as his identity was already known.
A Stern Warning From The Courts
Musongwe was swiftly brought before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court, where he faced the full weight of the law for the crime of bestiality. The magistrate handed down a six-month prison sentence, but suspended three months of the term on condition of good behaviour. The remaining three months were converted into 105 hours of community service, a punishment that has sparked much debate amongst locals.

The prosecuting authority used the case to issue a stern and worrying public warning. They expressed deep concern over a rising trend of such offences, emphasising the legal duty to protect the nation’s livestock from predatory individuals. The NPAZ stated, “Cases of bestiality have been on the increase lately and it is the duty of the law to protect our animals from individuals with weird sexual desires.” This case serves as a grim reminder that the law will intervene to shield even the most vulnerable creatures from human depravity.
