KZN wildfires: Aid agencies urge residents to exercise caution

Aid agencies are adding their voice to calls for residents of KwaZulu-Natal to exercise extreme caution in the wake of raging wildfires.

One person has died, and many others injured in blazes, in the north of the province.

The fires have been raging since Sunday.

“As the weather gets very cold, some people will be using different means of making fire, trying to warm themselves. Just make sure that before you sleep, whatever means, especially stoves and heaters, just make sure that it is switched off and kept at a distance from things that are flammable,” said the Red Cross’s Siyabonga Hlatshwayo.

Government disaster management teams are still working to quantify the extent of the damage.
