The Zimbabwe Republic Police has initiated a sweeping national road safety operation, mobilising officers across the country to safeguard citizens during the upcoming school break and festive period. In a major pre-emptive strike against holiday-season crime and traffic chaos, police units are being deployed from the capital to the most remote districts.
The force’s spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the large-scale mobilisation, stating that the initiative is designed to ensure seamless and secure travel for all. He outlined the strategy, saying,
“Police officers will therefore conduct engagement with transporters at National, Provincial and District levels for the smooth and safe movement of travellers from various cities, towns and other places.”

With the country anticipating a significant surge in road traffic, authorities have issued a direct and urgent appeal to parents and educational institutions. The police are emphasising that the welfare of children must be the absolute priority during this busy time. Commissioner Nyathi was unequivocal in his instructions, remarking,
“School authorities and parents should prioritise the safety and security of pupils and avoid travelling at night or hiring vehicles which are not certified fit to carry children.”
This warning serves as a critical reminder for families to exercise extreme vigilance and avoid cutting corners with transportation, ensuring that every child reaches their destination without incident. The force has vowed to come down hard on any drivers or operators who flout the regulations.
Public Urged to Partner with Police
The success of this safety crusade, according to the ZRP, hinges on a strong partnership with the public. Commissioner Nyathi has called for a collective effort, encouraging all citizens to act responsibly and to report any dangerous or illegal activities they witness. He made a direct plea for cooperation, stating,
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges Zimbabweans to cooperate with deployed officers and report errant drivers for the law to take its course.”

He also promised that the nation would be kept informed throughout the holiday period, noting,
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to give regular updates on Police deployments for the festive season.”
